This is the third year that Globe has partnered with DuPont and the NVFC to provide volunteer departments with critically needed sets of turnout gear. The Cape Ferrelo Rural Fire Protection District (Brookings, OR) and the Stratton (CO) Volunteer Fire Department will each receive four sets of new, state-of-the-art Globe turnout gear.

This year, a total of 13 departments will receive four sets of gear each. The first three recipients of the 2014 Globe Gear Giveaway Program are the Highlands (NJ) Fire Department, Nicasio (CA) Volunteer Fire Department, and Osler Fire Department (Saskatchewan, Canada).

Terry Farrell was a father, a husband, a brother, and a dedicated firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001, during the World Trade Center attack. Among the 343 heroes who died that day, he was in Tower Two when it collapsed. A decorated member of Rescue 4/FDNY and chief of the Dix Hills Volunteer Fire Department, Terry was a devoted firefighter who embodied the spirit of courage and giving. The Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund was established in his memory to assist firefighters and families across the nation with financial, educational and medical support, and to provide equipment donations for fire departments in need.

For the third year, Globe is partnering with DuPont Protection Technologies (DuPont) and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) to help resource-constrained fire departments obtain needed turnout gear. The 2014 Globe Gear Giveaway program is now open, and eligible departments can apply for four sets of gear for their members. A total of 52 sets will be awarded to 13 departments this year.

Elkton, Maryland, January 22, 2014 — Following its November 2013 Product Safety Alert
for firefighter turnout gear, W. L. Gore & Associates has worked with fire departments,
dealers, and manufacturers throughout North America to assess and reseal, as necessary,
the seams of turnouts with Gore moisture barriers. In the first two months since the Alert,
Gore has successfully remediated both stored and worn gear for metropolitan and volunteer
departments that enrolled early-on in the remediation program. Industry response has been
positive to Gore's remediation program, and Gore will continue to collaborate with all
responding departments on potentially affected gear.

important firefighter product safety alert, along with information about enrollment in a product
remediation program. The alert is in response to isolated incidents of seam-tape separation
observed in turnout gear in North America — utilizing both Gore and non-Gore moisture
barriers — that has been stored in its original packaging for three or more years before being
issued and worn. Gore’s alert identifies the affected GORE® products and a course of action
